What can I do as a partner or family member?

There’s a lot you can do to make things easier for your partner! Being able to support also supports the mindset that pregnancy is something you’re going through together. It has a big impact on your pregnant partner to be able to feel your support, especially when they might be struggling.

  • Be understanding, support and help in any way you can
  • Learn what might might trigger your partner’s nausea. It could be cooking, thinking about food or smelling food. Being hungry, having an empty stomach, loud noises, strong lights or going for car rides. The triggers vary from person to person
  • Offer food and drink when your partner feels able to eat
  • Let your partner get plenty of rest, and be prepared to help out more. This might include household tasks, or looking after other family members
  • Listen to your partner and pay attention to how she is feeling, as she may be anxious and unable to enjoy her pregnancy
  • Communicate and be honest about your feelings in order to be able to support each other. Contact your healthecare provider if you need support
